An initiative to make Delhi a Litter-Free City!
The project was also demonstrated during two major events held at Pragati Maidan in the last few months. Firstly, at the 31st India International Trade Fair and later at the 11th AutoExpo.
The campaign gradually aims to expand in the other parts of the city to sensitise people towards their moral responsibility of keeping surroundings clean and hygienic and make Delhi as one of the cleanest cities in the world and set an example for others.

The Litter-Free campaign is an initiative by the plastic industry bodies i.e. Indian Council for Plastic in Environment (ICPE), All India Plastic Industries Association (AIPIA) and Plastic Manufactures and Traders Association, Delhi (PMTA) as a demonstration of ensuring a litter free experience to all in the society.
Eight months ago, in the month of April, 2011 the campaign kicked-off from the Connaught Place (C.P) as it attracts a lot of visitors and since the introduction of the Metro rail, it has seen a revival of the shopping complex and many more visitors. The visitors discard a large amount of solid waste such as plastic bags, cups, wrappers and trays etc across the area due to the unavailability of proper disposal facilities.
A dedicated team of 6 workers and a supervisor work throughout the week except Tuesday from morning 11 a.m. till evening 7 p.m. to ensure the area is kept clean and to spread awareness. They are being provided with proper uniforms, safety guards and cleaning equipments, black coloured bags are used for collection of waste which is ultimately discarded in the large bins put-up by NDMC.
On an average a worker collects and disposes almost 10 Kgs of solid waste per hour which shows that almost half ton of littered waste is being collected & disposed daily by our workers. So, approximately more than 100 tons of solid waste has been disposed properly.
The initiative has gained a very positive feedback from major stakeholders and the general public, the market association on C.P i.e. New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) has committed to support the project.
The media has also taken up this in its publications (attachment), which can be accessed at the following link: http://cityplus.epapr.in/15114/Central-West-Delhi/Vol-6-Issue-6-October-29-November-4-2011#p=page:n=7:z=NaN
